Fear of the Unknown

It's frustrating right? There are so many factors that seem to keep people from taking action, but it seems the biggest one is fear of what MAY happen.
“Fear of the unknown is our greatest fear. Many of us would enter a tigers lair before we would enter a dark cave. While caution is a useful instinct, we lose many opportunities and much of the adventure of life if we fail to support the curious explorer within us.” – Joseph Campbell
I have known many people who will stay in a hopeless loop of fear, anger, frustration for years. Doing and feeling the same thing over and over again. Even under constant pain and fear. I just honestly don't understand it.
It's not because I'm not fearful of things, it's because to me inaction is worse than failure. If I fail at something I can redirect. I can learn from what just happened and try something different. If I never try then I live in the perpetual unknown. I can't improve, I can't grow, and I can't change my current circumstances because I'm trapped within my own "what ifs".
I'm not trying to shame anyone right now. I recognize that I was very lucky and had a very solid childhood where my parents were my biggest cheerleaders. My basic needs of safety, food, shelter, clothing were always met and that might not be what your situation was at all. I acknowledge that gave me quite an advantage. I recognize that having someone teach me to be brave has given me the ability to even write this email, but we're adults now. And WE are responsible for choosing the direction of our lives NOW.
If there's one thing I've seen (especially in my time as a Foster Parent) it's that doing nothing VERY VERY VERY rarely changes your circumstances. What's called for is ACTION. Sometimes even the smallest movement in any direction can set things moving in a positive direction. One step leads to two, leads to 5, leads to a jog, leads to a run, leads to a sprint.
What are you holding back on today? What fear is paralyzing you from taking the next step to your next amazing opportunity? What lies have you told yourself to keep yourself SETTLING for what is known? What self-speak has you trapped? Take time this weekend and really ask yourself...
WHAT'S THE ABSOLUTE WORST THING THAT COULD HAPPEN? Really keep digging and ask yourself until you get to the worst you can think off. Then check your odds of that actually HAPPENING. My guess is it will be nearly ZERO.
